If you've never seen one: a home battery is an enclosed unit mounted indoors. It stores electricity so it can be used at a different time than it arrived.

From the electrical service the home already has. Nothing to refill or deliver.

Stored energy stays ready — held for the times the grid needs that power most.
It releases
On a signal from the grid — or when the power goes out — it sends the stored energy back out.

The program
Connecticut set a target. It runs until 2030.
Energy Storage Solutions provides incentives for qualifying battery systems, including systems owned by approved third-party providers. Under our proposed model, CT Battery Solutions would own the equipment and use program incentives and other available funding sources to support a $0-upfront-cost offering for qualifying households.
Residential deployment is still at an early stage. About 3.3 MW of standalone residential battery storage has been completed through the program to date (as of August 2026). See program data →

Renters & property owners
Renting shouldn't rule you out.
If you rent
A battery is permanently mounted, so the property owner has to agree in writing. We plan to handle that conversation ourselves rather than leaving it to you. Renters are welcome on the list now.
If you own the property
Under our proposed model, CT Battery Solutions would own and maintain the equipment. Connecticut currently exempts residential energy storage from property tax assessment. Final terms would live in a written agreement.
